With the Jet Airways pilots return to work at the weekend I went into work on Monday to discover that the trip to Mumbai was on again.
So we flew Monday evening, visited a contractor yesterday, and came back this morning.
There’s not really lot to report – Mumbai Airport is certainly a lot more modern and impressive than Chennai – but so is my late father’s shed – so that’s not saying a lot.
What we saw of the city itself from our air conditioned black limousine was that the tall buildings had a lot more character to them – indeed looking across the lake from the hotel at night it was similar to Hong Kong – but the roads and traffic were no better .
Still, it’s somewhere else to add to my list of places I never expected to visit!

- The Bloodaxe is a 55 year old Grammar School Educated Yorkshireman with a BSc Econ (Hons) from University College Cardiff (1977 to 1980). For degree he studied Economics and Industrial Relations – where he picked up Anarcho Syndicalism as a political philosophy. He also acquired an interest in rugby and thanks to a series by Michael Woods on the BBC the “Dark Ages” and history in general. He didn’t do history beyond second year at Grammar School – as he didn’t like the teacher and it was always about the boring bits (e.g. the life of an Anglo Saxon peasant) rather than the bloody bits (e.g. The War of the Roses or World War Two). Leaving university he found himself with a dead end company for three years before ending up in the Oil & Gas Industry – where he has worked for an international contracting company for over 25 years in Procurement. This has seen him work in places as varied as Ireland, Italy, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the USA, China and India. Most of this travel has been during the past ten years. He continues to read quite a bit of history and subscribes to The Economist and The New Statesman magazines.
